First Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic person's life. It is the first time that a person receives the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is the eating of consecrated bread and drinking of consecrated wine. Catholics believe these to be the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Most Catholic children receive their First Communion when they're 7 or 8 years old, because this is considered the age of reason. Other people can receive communion for the first time whenever they've met all of the Catholic Church's requirements.
Flower girls traditionally take part in the wedding ceremony and walk down the aisle with a basket of flowers and drop flower pedals as they proceed. They are by no means required at a wedding, but should you want to go with one it is a good idea to get an understanding of what they do. Flowers girls are usually young members of the family, the wedding couples' own children, nieces or close family friends, and between the ages of 2 – 8. They are often dolled up and sent to walk down the aisle before the bride and her father. Typically flower girls carry a basket of wedding flowers that might match or accent nicely the bride's bouquet or the other colors used in the wedding. The younger the precious little flower girl is, the less likely she is to be focused on her role. That might mean that unplanned things happen, which can be adorable if they do something cute, or frustrating if they are misbehaving. Judge not only the age of the flower girl, but her maturity level and ability to focus and do as they are instructed.
Ring Bearer Ring bearers are traditionally young boys that partake in the wedding ceremony. The main role of a ring bearer is to bring the wedding rings up into the wedding ceremony. The young boy will walk down the aisle typically just before or just after the flower girl. His role is carrying the wedding rings up to the best man and maid of honor. Ring bearers are typical young members of the family, the wedding couples’ own children, nephews or close family friends and are between the ages of 4 – 8. There are two options for the ring bearers, they either carry the real wedding rings, or more often than not, they are carrying, imitation rings, as the best man is carrying the real wedding rings for safekeeping. In either case, the rings are typically tied down with ribbon or sewn to the wedding ring pillow. The younger the handsome ring bearer is, the less likely he is to be focused on his task at hand. That might mean that unplanned things happen, which can be adorable if they do something cute, or frustrating if they are misbehaving. Judge not only the age of the ring bearer but also his level of maturity, ability to focus and do what he is instructed to do.
